Online Workshop Submission for MSAC review: The Monster Year (grades 2 - 4) Thank you for reviewing this online performance for addition to InterAct Story Theatre’s AiE Roster listing! InterAct Story Theatre has visiting performances for a wide range of educational and family audiences. This workshop is a recreation of a story dramatization workshop inspired by the Chinese folk tale “The Monster Year”. This workshop was conducted this year for 2nd - 4th graders; it has been recreated for this video submission with a mock audience of educators, actors and teaching artists. A technical rider outlining the program coordination and tech rehearsal process is uploaded here; in addition to this tech packet, partner organizations also receive an electronic parent-educator resource/study guide and a link to a feedback form. - Kelly King
Kelly King Kelly (she/hers) is the founder and Artistic Director of Contradiction Dance Theatre, making dances for theatre, film, stage, and street... and all the places people go in-between. Playing in several artistic sandboxes at once, Kelly serves the creative community as an educator, choreographer, consultant, advocate and audience member. For over 15 years she has worked with teachers and students on adaptive movement bringing dance to all types of students. She has founded three dance programs, including the CityDance Center at Strathmore and Contradiction Dance; led professional development workshops for educators nationwide; consulted for the DC Collaborative for the Arts and Humanities; and served St. Mary’s College of Maryland teaching all levels of improvisation, composition, jazz and modern dance. Currently, Kelly teaches beginners through professional levels of dance to students ranging from pre-school to senior citizens, including adults with disabilities. She also leads Moving Dialogues workshops to engage and empower non-dancers in the artistic process through their own writing and movement. As a trainer in arts integration, she leads workshops designed to create the next generation of master educators. Kelly has performed nationally and internationally for several dance companies, notably BodyWise Dance, CityDance Ensemble (Associate Director), Liz Lerman Dance Exchange, Echo Park Contemporary Ballet, and JazzDanzDC. She has performed with production companies, including Cirque du Soleil, The Baltimore Symphony Orchestra and Cast of Thousands. Choreography credits include projects with The Kennedy Center, Round House Theatre, The Source Festival, Forum Theatre, Constellation Theatre, Taffety Punk Theatre Company, M productions at the Anacostia Arts and site specific work for the #DanceAboutDC series. About this workshop The first version of this workshop was originally designed for an summer school class with MCPS PEP preschool education program, for students age 4; the majority of students were largely nonverbal but who were engaged by song, simple puppets, and animals. This program was loosely inspired by the book “Mr. Brown Can Moo, Can You?” While a video was taken of the workshop in the classroom as it occurred, only one family came to school on that day…we had a wonderful, fun session, but so that you can see workshop design more clearly, we have recreated the workshop with a mock audience. Khaleshia Thorpe-Price As an artist, she co-wrote A Journey with Jazz, an interactive performance experience for young audiences, for the Wolf Trap Institute for Early Learning through the Arts. She perform in this production with the Wolf Trap Jazz Trio. She has served as the host for the Music Box Family Concert Series with members of the BSO at the Meyerhoff Symphony Hall and has directed performances in the Folger Shakespeare Children's Festival. She has worked in arts education since 2000. As a teaching artist, she has facilitated residencies and workshops for children and adults for many arts organizations including Wolf Trap, Arena Stage, Young Playwrights Theater, Young Audiences of Maryland, Folger Shakespeare Library, Shakespeare Theater Company and M-NCPP. As an arts manager, she as coordinated workshops and residencies for thousands of students and educators in D.C., Maryland, and Virginia. She has partnered with many organizations including the United States Department of State, the National Portrait Gallery, and ZERO to THREE to provide unique arts learning experiences for all ages. In addition, she has managed enrichment and academic afterschool programs for D.C. Public Schools. She earned an MA in Arts Management from the University of Central Florida and a BA in Theater Arts from Morgan State University. Drama Stories on Stage Back

Pete Oliver-Krueger Pete Oliver-Krueger is a master carpenter, set designer, director, actor, and classical singer ...plus a product consultant and software engineer. As Technical Director for InterAct he is tasked with constructing the traveling sets for InterAct's main stage performances, designing special effects, and overseeing anything else with a technical component. As a product consultant and software engineer he mentors startups, large organizations, and non-profits in the DC metro area, teaching them how to do more with the resources they already have. He got his start at Carnegie Mellon's Robotics Institute, and his software architectures power multiple government agencies including the FDA, NASA, and the Pentagon. He has led many high-profile teams, including the relaunch of TD Ameritrade's new online trading platform, and the first DC Metro Trip Planner. Marshal Bailey Marshall Bailey (he/him) is a teaching artist and actor. At Salisbury University he studied both theatre performance and ecosystem biology. Shortly thereafter, he began doubling as a Teaching Artist and Education Coordinator for Compass Rose Theater. As both an educator and administrator, Marshall strives to make meaningful connections with his community by giving people the tools to explore their creativity and discover who they are. In addition to his work with InterAct Story Theatre, Marshall’s broad range of credits include performing, directing, teaching, arts administration, and technical production with such companies as Baltimore Shakespeare Factory, Compass Rose Theatre, Drama Learning Center, and others. He hopes to one day bring together his passion for environmental stewardship and theatre craft to create a new form of theatre to help audiences build an empathetic relationship with nature. - Anabel Milton
Anabel Milton Anabel Milton (she/her/hers) is a Silver Spring-based actor, singer, and teaching artist who believes strongly in the power of the arts and storytelling to foster connection, community, and empathy among human beings. Anabel is a graduate of Skidmore College, where she earned a BS in Theater and BA in psychology. Anabel is an enthusiastic and longtime student of classical voice, and also enjoys singing jazz and international folk. Anabel has previously studied at Shakespeare & Company in Lenox, MA, and at the Gaiety School of Acting in Dublin, Ireland. She also performed at the 2018 InterHarmony Music Festival in Acqui Terme, Italy, and joined the Acting Company of the Maryland Renaissance Festival in Annapolis, MD in 2019. Anabel is passionate about working with young people, and has for many years in a variety of roles. Anabel especially enjoys working in early childhood, but has experience working with students of all ages and abilities and hopes to use her studies in psycholinguistics, clinical psychology, and child development to continue advocating for accessibility in theater spaces and in theater for young audiences. She is also is deeply passionate about trauma relief, crisis prevention, and promotion of mental health awareness for youth, and hopes to be an advocate in her work for individuals struggling with depression and anxiety.
